The Art Museum’s Art Nouveau building was opened to the public in the spring of 1904.

Since the beginning the museum has presented major exhibitions by Finnish and international artists focusing on Nordic art in particular. Renowned as a national treasure, the museum’s collection consists of seminal works from the Golden Age of Finnish art, Finnish surrealism and Pop Art in addition to a fine selection of self-portraits.
